→ born and raised in bedford, massachusetts. the oldest of four children born to emilia and duncan abshire. duncan made his living following in the footsteps of his father -- going into the family law practice as soon as he passed the bar. canadian-born emilia focused mostly on being a mother to her four children, but also ran a catering business out of their home. from the time she was small, alice loved helping her mom in the kitchen, and earned herself a good little savings by working catering events with her mom throughout middle and high school.

→ attended vanderbilt university in nashville, where she entered as an undecided major. after puttering around and auditing a couple of classes, she found a particular professor in the history program that made her extremely excited about the subject. she'd been a bit in love with history since high school (after a summer trip to europe, and the following year a trip with her family to visit particularly important historical sites along the east coast) but never quite considered how she might make a career out of it. she re-fell in love with history in college, and decided that she could turn that same passion into a career by teaching young minds to appreciate the world through the lens of history.

→ came out as bisexual to her parents as a teenager, though has only dated three men in her entire life. her family was incredibly supportive, which she hadn't anticipated. it made her feel a bit foolish for being so utterly terrified to tell them in the first place, when her mother insisted she'd known for quite some time, and her father's main gripe was that he didn't know how to properly threaten girls vs. boys with the "if you hurt my daughter" talk. her family has always been disgustingly supportive of each other, where even when they fight and gnash their teeth at each other, it all comes from a very loving place. she has one brother who is a bit of a "black sheep" and doesn't really like being around the whole family all that much, but will swallow his annoyance usually once a year around christmas time. alice insists that she gets along so well with everyone because they don't live near each other -- absence and hearts growing fonder, all of that.

→ though she doesn't get a lot of time to do it, her favorite thing to do is travel. she makes a point to explore some new place at least once a year, be it in-country or abroad. she almost always goes home for christmas, or thanksgiving as well if she can swing it. if not, she hosts a big thanksgiving feast for her friends and others left in nashville for the holiday. cooking is another of her favorite things to do, and she finds it extremely cathartic. she hosts plenty of dinner parties throughout the year.

→ bought her first home in 2013, a two bedroom house a few miles away from campus. far away enough from unruly college parties.
→ has one tattoo she got while in college, but definitely plans on getting another.
→ has a 2 year old german shepherd mutt, midnight.
